Wigging out

I actually bought a pair of maternity pants over the weekend.

Well, truth be told, my mother bought them, because she bought the shirt for me that I exchanged for them (the shirt was gorgeous, by the way - just for some reason the designer thought a maternity shirt should allow NO ROOM for bosom, and I need a double room and then some...)

Anyhoo.

So, I finally bought some maternity pants.

Now, I normally buy a 16 because designers don't believe in thighs and I don't believe in flaunting my generous pair too well, so I just grabbed a 16 which made me look like I was 20 months but then what doesn't...

I believe that store dressing rooms give you grey hair. I mean, I am sure I had none on Saturday morning when I did the cursory glance as I went out the door - but then I got to Target and saw a grey halo...

It is a special ingredient in the mirrors - the same ones that convince you to buy crap you shouldn't and then thumps you with a "you look fat and old" signal as you change out of it...

Makes you want to go home and dye, so you make stupid shopping decisions in haste.

Anyhoo - wore them today and had to keep hitching, because while allowing the generosity in the thigh it was also allowing for a waist of a well proportioned full term woman, methinks.

My mum did suggest braces, but I got all giggly at the thought of topping it with a red shirt, polka dot yellow bow tie and trying to get in and out of a telephone booth with many others!

Still, at least my budding fashion designer saw past the obvious flaws in my wardrobe.

"Wear black, mummy" said 'Salina. "It makes you look so pretty".

If anyone sees a black baggy panted, braced, flame-haired wierdo, please don't freak - it may just be this clown.

Have you tried the belly belt thingy that you can use with your 'normal' pants? It does up over the buttons and is all stretchy and maternity like...?
Failing that, I have braces, a red shirt AND a polka dot bow tie you're welcome to (seriously!).

Gah, no practical fashion advice for the maternity gear. I just think it's so sweet that your daughter tells you that something you wear makes you look pretty!

I wore the Belly Belt with Monet - didn't buy any maternity pants. But this time around I though feck it, and have a few pairs.

One particular pair I actually ran-in the tummy part, with the sewing machine. One skirt I refuse to wear because it seems like it believes my waist is at my thighs. The two pairs I wear constantly are 3/4 pants (olive colour and a black pair) that have the high (high) but darn comfortable waists. I bought them reasonably priced from H&M. They'll see me out for a while after bub arrives too.

As for tops, I did buy a couple of maternity ones, but ones that don't 'look' maternity, if you know what I mean. I should be able to wear them later on too.

But honestly, can't wait to wear my normal clothes again. Or go shopping for normal clothes again....

The baggy panted, braces, flame-haired weirdo visual almost made me laugh out loud--which is not good since I am sneaking reading blogs at work. Still smiling, and best wishes with the new wardrobe.

I'm glad that I'm not the only person to notice that dressing rooms give you gray hair. And pasty skin. And wrinkles.

(As dictated by 'Salina) (inspired by Trace) - "don't worry, you don't need pretty clothes to look pretty, you just need to be yourself".

Alison - I KNOW you are the girl to turn to when I need to complete the wardrobe!!

Tracey - isn't "practical maternity gear" an oxymoron?

Melody - belly belts require you to zip up in front, and I have no pants that fall in to that category. Of course, I could always dust off the sewing machine and get over myself...

Leenie - I am glad you held it in so you didn't blow the "research" cover.

Bush Babe - now I KNOW where 'Salina gets her great vision from!

Debby - we should workshop it. Do you think they have special lighting design or is it the mirrors?

I think I have a belly belt in my cupboard. Email me if you want it because I can assure you I will never need it again ;)

LOL.
I remember wearing maternity pants that allowed for some serious knee expansion during pregnancy.

I lived in bib and brace overalls for almost the entire pregnancy, I think. I was so not going to buy maternity clothes. Now I am not even pregnant and look for stretch pants!

Whatever you are wearing, I'm sure you look beautiful.
Me I was a trackers girl, all the way.
Especially with Ivy and Noah but I guess after six kids you just don't care what you look like.
