One thing that I have discovered about myself (whenever I find it an interesting enough subject to contemplate) is that I do have a bit of a tendency to form patterns.
Some I have no control over - like the full time rhythms of the work that I do, and the cyclical nature of its demands. The moon and planet alignments *. Or the ordained dates of children's schooling.
Some I am growing into. **
- Made sourdough focaccia,
- Went to Qi Flow * (who knows, every new ritual has to have a first time)
- Had my monthly book club meeting,
- And came home to make 3 curries, a taco brew and rice.
* I learned this morning that today is a very auspicious day because some planet moving into another astrological zone - I remember the star sign but I don't remember the planet. Which is weird as there are more astrological signs than there are planets in the solar system. Aries.
** Yea it's true. This is the pared down version.
*** The teacher from - * - who was NOT the one who gave the astrological news - was at poetry on Friday and she did an absolutely amazing poem. I did an edited version of the post I did here a few nights ago. I also did a very old poem from my Melbourne days called "Out of the Woodwork".
As I said in my intro Friday night, from a life before I had children.
Tonight I remembered that Tuesday night was an awesome open mike in Carleton back then!

To be someone who needs order and ritual in my life, I've done a remarkable job of adapting (to children, no children, requested changes of routine, etc) over the years.
Guides as in Girl Guides/Girl Scouts? I was a leader and continued to be cookie chairman even after my girls lost interest (around age 12). We always met right after school.
Sourdough focaccia sounds delicious! Do you ever add rosemary?
This one definitely needed rosemary - it was a bit bland - but then, all baking is an experiment around here!
Yes, Girl Guides - it started at a ridiculous time that worked for neither working nor non-working mothers, the ladies who ran it were nice but more about following the way it has always been done than encouraging participation from parents and the girls were either already all in cliques or very obviously not and scarred from the exclusion. The only time we did the cookie drive, the new cat got into the box of cookies and sprayed them! So I had to purchase the lot and dump them.
Human animals need patterns..we all have our own special ones
I had order and ritual from the day my firstborn came home until the day my youngest got a job. It was still there, but more loosely followed as I was working myself too. These days the only orders in my day are cleaning the cat litter and making sure all dishes are done and put away before I go to bed. I love getting up to a clean and tidy kitchen.
This made me smile because it reminded me of the traditions we have that just started accidentally - dying eggs with friends on Good Friday and watching Life of Brian after is just one example! I'm getting back to work on my family tree too, this time, dad's side.
I am someone who is often busy, but rarely organized. I think not being organized makes me even busier. It is hard to be organized when I have a husband who springs into action and expects me to dance along behind him. We are retired. I think that once the house is done, we will be able to settle into some semblance of a routine. Would be nice.
OMG!! 🙀
I suppose that we do, GZ - although some times it seems as if I do one thing to see and next thing I know it is part of the pattern of my life.
I do love a clean and tidy kitchen too.
ha ha - we always watch Dinner for One on New Years Eve
Good luck on that - I grew up with a father who was a bit like that - Mum worked hard to keep her balance.
